Summary: During the initial deployment to Guadalcanal, Alden Whitefield volunteered for duty as a clerk. In doing so, he became intimately familiar with many of the squadron's early details. SSgt Whitefield was medically discharged during July of 1944 due to partial loss of sight as a result of Malaria. Following discharge, he worked as a ranch hand, auto mechanic, and carpenter. Alden later managed a Mobile fuel station before becoming a television cable contractor with his brother, Stanley. Alden is retired and living in Texas with his wife. Grandson Mike Parks has actively contributed to this VMF-112 web site.
